Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. freshman state Rep. Rusty Farley dies

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma state Rep. Rusty Farley, a Republican who beat an incumbent Democrat in last year's general election, has died. He was 57.

The Oklahoma Republican Party said Farley died at about 1 p.m. Monday in a Paris, Texas, hospital.

Last fall, Farley raised $170 for his House race against Democrat Dennis Bailey, who had more than $20,000 in campaign funds.

His victory was also notable because it came in heavily Democratic McCurtain County in southeast Oklahoma.

Farley was a longtime school board member in Haworth prior to getting elected to the House.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
