State House Probe

Oklahoma City, OK – Investigated lawmakers propose House changes

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Two state lawmakers at the center of an investigation into possible corruption at the state Capitol are proposing changes to the House legislative process.

State Reps. Randy Terrill and Mike Christian sent an e-mail Wednesday detailing their 10-point "Member's Bill of Rights" to their House colleagues, including Speaker-Designate Kris Steele.

Among the suggestions are subjecting the House to the state's Open Records Act, formalizing the conference committee process and restricting the use of "shell" bills.

The Oklahoma County District Attorney is looking into allegations that Terrill conspired to create a state job for state Sen. Debbe Leftwich so she would not run for re-election and Christian could seek her seat.

All have denied wrongdoing.
