Gov. Mary Fallin announced enough was donated to supply 2.9 million meals in Oklahoma. That is how much food was donated to help hungry Oklahomans as part of her annual food drive.
Fallin joined officials from the state's two largest food banks to release the results of her monthlong Feeding Oklahoma Food Drive.
The governor kicked off the drive Oct. 1 with a goal of collecting enough for 1.4 million meals to help feed hungry families in Oklahoma. Fallin made the food drive her inaugural event after her election in 2010.
Fallin set a goal of providing 1.2 million meals during last year's drive, and more than doubled that with 2.6 million meals provided.
She says Oklahoma consistently ranks among the top 10 hungriest states in the nation, with more than 675,000 residents facing hunger each day.
