HOUSTON (AP) G.J. Kinne rushed for 190 yards and a touchdown and threw for 154 yards and two more TDs as Tulsa held on for a 28-25 win over Houston on Saturday night.
Kinne ran it in from a yard out to give the Golden Hurricane (7-3, 5-2 C-USA) a 28-10 lead with 4:11 left in the third, but Houston (5-5, 3-3 C-USA) cut the lead to 28-25 with two David Piland touchdown passes.
Piland was picked off by Marco Nelson with 5:39 left, and Tulsa ran out the clock. It was Piland's fifth interception of the game.
Piland finished 22 of 36 passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns while Kierrie Johnson caught five passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.
Nelson finished with three interceptions, and Curnelius Arnick had two picks for Tulsa.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) In college football, No. 12 Oklahoma State ended a 12-year losing streak to Texas with a 33-16 victory last night. The win keeps surging Oklahoma State (9-1, 5-1) in first place in the Big 12 South with two games to play. The Cowboys have never won the division.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Ryan Broyles caught three of Landry Jones' five touchdown passes and broke a few more Oklahoma records in last night's 45-7 victory over Texas Tech. Broyles caught eight passes for 119 yards and broke Mark Clayton's career records for receptions and touchdown catches at Oklahoma (8-2, 4-2 Big 12). He also eclipsed his own mark for catches in a season and now holds almost every significant receiving record at the school.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) In men's college basketball, four players scored double figures for Oklahoma State in an 86-73 season-opening win over Houston Baptist yesterday. The Cowboys got 17 points from Marshall Moses, 16 points from freshman Jean-Paul Olukemi, 15 from Nick Sidorakis and 13 from Keiton Page.
MILWAUKEE (AP) In women's college basketball, No. 10 Oklahoma beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 76-59 yesterday in the season opener for both teams. The Sooners were never able to pull away from the scrappy Panthers until Danielle Robinson turned a five-point lead with 5 minutes to play into a rout with a 14-4 run. She started the spurt with a jumper and a 3-pointer.
