Some Guard Members Detoured

Tulsa, OK – Some Oklahoma Guard troops headed to Kuwait

(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The commander of the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade says about 1,000 of his troops are headed to Kuwait instead of Afghanistan.

Original plans called for 3,200 Oklahoma troops to deploy to Afghanistan this month. But Col. Joel Ward of Claremore tells the Tulsa World about 1,000 of those soldiers are being redirected to Kuwait, where they will handle operations in and out of Iraq.

The troops heading to Kuwait are with the Durant-based 1st Battalion of the 180th Cavalry and the Chandler-based 1st Battalion of the 160th Field Artillery. They will be stationed near the Kuwait-Iraq border.

The brigade's tour of duty is set to last nine months.
