Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. judge removes names from sex offender list

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma County judge has issued an order to remove the names of 38 people from the state sex offender registry because their length of time on the list was extended retroactively.

District Judge Dan Owens earlier this week ruled the state can't increase the number of years a person is required to be on the list after they've already been added.

The ruling affects sex offenders convicted before 2007, the year state legislators changed the law lengthening the amount of time offenders must remain on the registry.

The people who were removed from the registry have completed their time on the list under the laws in place when they were first included.

Corrections Department spokesman Jerry Massie told the Tulsa World the state hasn't decided whether it will appeal.
