Off Session Studies Planned

Retiring House Speaker Chris Benge.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. House interim studies announced

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma House Speaker Chris Benge has approved 68 interim studies to be conducted prior to the start of the 2011 Legislature in February.

The studies announced Thursday include child welfare services, agency consolidation, math education in Oklahoma schools, tax credits and incentives and a review of recent government modernization efforts.

Benge says interim studies give lawmakers an opportunity to investigate and flesh out potential legislative proposals before drafting bills. He says this year's study requests covered a wide array of topics.

Overall, 76 study requests were approved, but eight were combined with similar or identical proposals. Due to budget considerations, the number of days committees can conduct interim studies has been limited to reduce costs
