By Associated Press

Miami, OK – Missouri man serving sentence for turnpike deaths

MIAMI, Okla. (AP) A Missouri man has begun serving a 30-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to negligent homicide in a turnpike accident that killed 10 people.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's office says Donald Creed, of Willard, Mo., surrendered on Monday, the day he reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Creed's semi slammed into vehicles that had stopped for a previous accident on Interstate 44 near Miami on June 26, 2009. Oklahoma City residents Oral Hooks, Earlene Hooks, Antonio Hooks and Dione Hooks; Shelby Hayes, Ethan Hayes and Randall Hayes of Frisco, Texas; Cynthia Olson, of Crossroads, Texas; and Ricardo Reyes and Ernestina Reyes of Phoenix died.

Creed was driving for Kansas City, Kan.-based Associated Wholesale Grocers that day but has retired.

His attorney didn't return a call seeking comment.
