Saturday Fire Destroys Near Downtown Building in Tulsa

Tulsa Fire Department-Facebook

A spectacular fire fills the Saturday morning Tulsa skyline with thick, black smoke. The blaze was reported just after 6 O’clock this morning at southwest corner of 3rd and South Peoria.

Tulsa Fire officials say two people had to be rescued from the building. They were treated for minor injuries.

Part of the building collapsed onto the railroad tracks at the 4th Street viaduct. The fire department developed a defensive posture, as they tried to keep the blaze from spreading.

There is no official word on the cause of the fire at this point. However, it is speculated the fire many have been started by transients trying to stay warm.

The building once housed the Hanna Lumber and Hardware store. It was considered as a location for Iron Gate’s Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry until neighbors objected.
