Salvation Army Plans Fundraiser for Oklahoma Programs

Salvation Army Facebook

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Salvation Army's Central Oklahoma Area Command is hosting a 1950's inspired Sock Hop & Silent Auction to raise money for the expansion of programs at its five senior centers.

Funds will provide more field trips for seniors, many of whom are on fixed incomes and can't afford the trips offered at the centers.

The goal is to raise enough money to pay for trips by as many seniors as possible. Recent trips were to The Chickasaw Cultural Center, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Science Museum Oklahoma.

The Sock Hop & Silent Auction will feature DJ Tony Spano playing the hits of the 1950s and 1960s. There will also be games, costume contests and food.

The event is planned on Thursday at the Warr Acres Community Center
