Review of Oklahoma's Execution Protocols Due Soon

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The governor's office says a report examining Oklahoma's execution protocols after the botched lethal injection of an inmate four months ago could be issued next week.

Alex Weintz, a spokesman for Governor Mary Fallin, said Friday the report will examine what went right and wrong during the April 29th execution of Clayton Lockett, who took about 43 minutes to die after Lockett's lethal injection began.

An autopsy released Thursday found Lockett died from the lethal drugs he received during the injection, but the report failed to explain why he writhed, moaned and clenched his teeth before he was pronounced dead.

Oklahoma City Republican Representative Mike Christian plans a hearing in September to study alternatives to Oklahoma's method of executing death row inmates, prompted by Lockett's troubled execution.
