Report: 1 Million Visitors to Oklahoma's National Parks

Wikipedia

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A new report from the National Parks Service shows that more than 1 million people visited Oklahoma's national parks in 2013 and spent $17.2 million.

Oklahoma has three national parks: Washita Battlefield National Historic Site, Chickasaw National Recreation Area and Oklahoma City National Memorial.

Sue Masica is the director of the NPS Intermountain Region, which includes Oklahoma. She says the report shows that parks tourism is an important factor in Oklahoma's economy.

U.S. Geological Survey economists conducted the spending analysis report for the National Parks Service.

The national report shows that more than 273 million park visitors spent $14.6 billion in communities within 60 miles of a national park.
