Norman, OK – Chairman of OU Board of Regents dies at 72

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An official of the University of Oklahoma says the chairman of the school's Board of Regents, Larry Wade of Elk City, has died at the age of 72.

Catherine Bishop, OU vice president for public affairs, said Wade died early Sunday in Integris Baptist Medical Center at Oklahoma City. Bishop said she didn't know the exact cause of death, but Wade had heart problems.

OU President David Boren said the state had lost one of its most dedicated citizen leaders. Boren said Wade's first priority was more scholarships for students.

Dr. John Bell, vice chairman of the regents, said Wade was the ultimate OU fan.

Wade, publisher of the Elk City Daily News, was appointed to a seven-year term on the OU board in 2004, by then-Gov. Brad Henry.
