PSO, TU Flip the Switch on Large Rooftop Solar Installation

PSO

The University of Tulsa is home to one of Oklahoma’s largest — if not the largest — rooftop solar power installations.

A partnership between TU and PSO helped put a 936 panel, 300 kilowatt system on the roof of the Case Tennis Center to power the building. It can generate the same amount of energy as 75 residential rooftop installations.

"This partnership between PSO and the University of Tulsa is truly a 'lead by example' style project for the state," said Kylah McNabb, the energy policy advisor for the Oklahoma Secretary of Energy and Environment. "When we talk about solar, it really, truly is the next piece in Oklahoma's energy mix."

PSO President Stuart Solomon says solar is the newest form of energy on their system.

"It's 100 percent renewable, it's 100 percent clean and it's 100 percent part of our shared energy future," Solomon said.

The project is also one step toward an ambitious goal.

"We plan to add over 200 megawatts of solar energy, and that's the equivalent, rough equivalent, of 50,000 residential rooftop solar units," Solomon said. "And we plan to do that by the year 2024."
