Pre-K Student Contracts Viral Meningitis

Bartlesville Public Schools officials are dealing with a case of meningitis in a young pre-kindergarten student. The student began feeling ill on October seventeenth and was taken to a physician which then led to the child's hospitalization. Doctors diagnosed the student with meningitis but only recently confirmed that it was a viral form of the infection.

After receiving verification of the diagnosis, BPS contacted the Washington County Health Department and the Oklahoma State Department of Health to confirm any steps to take. The pre-k pod and the cafeteria at the Wayside school were both disinfected to prevent other children from becoming ill.

The pre-k student is said to be doing alright and was last seen in class on October 10th. The Wayside elementary school was open today for classes.
