Portico Dans Theatre to Present "Pagliacci Project" This Weekend at the Tulsa PAC

Aired on Tuesday, June 9th.

On this installment of ST, we speak with Jennifer Alden, the co-founder and co-director of the Tulsa-based dance company, Portico Dans Theatre. Aldren tells us about this company's latest production, which, per the Portico Dans Theatre website, "combines the drama of an opera ('Pagliacci') and the physicality of aerial dance in 'Pagliacci Project.' The production employs youth and adult dancers on aerial silks, lyra, trapeze, and the Spanish web. 'Pagliacci Project' is part of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center's annual SummerStage festival." This high-flying, high-kicking, high-energy mix of opera, dance, and circus artistry will play in the PAC's Liddy Doenges Theatre on June 12th and 13th at 8pm, with a special pre-show event at 7:30 pm during the June 12th performance. Also on our program today, we present another commentary from John Schumann, the guest host of our ongoing StudioTulsa on Health series. In this piece, with help from great writers like Anton Chekov and Abraham Verghese, Schumann explains why he'd like to order champagne on his deathbed.

Rich Fisher passed through KWGS about thirty years ago, and just never left. Today, he is the general manager of Public Radio Tulsa, and the host of KWGS’s public affairs program, StudioTulsa, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary in August 2012 . As host of StudioTulsa, Rich has conducted roughly four thousand long-form interviews with local, national, and international figures in the arts, humanities, sciences, and government. Very few interviews have gone smoothly. Despite this, he has been honored for his work by several organizations including the Governor's Arts Award for Media by the State Arts Council, a Harwelden Award from the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and was named one of the “99 Great Things About Oklahoma” in 2000 by Oklahoma Today magazine.
