Pop Up Shops Return to Downtown

KWGS News

Is the prospect of a trip to the mall making you put off your Christmas shopping?

This year, try going downtown instead. It’s the second year for the Deco District’s Pop Up Shops.

“Essentially what it is, is these shops just pop up in a vacant space for one month,” said Libby Auld, president of the Deco District Neighborhood Association.

She says the idea grew out of the desire to keep seasonal business downtown.

Last year, five of the pop ups stayed permanently.

“Out of the additional 15 plus shops this year, if we could get five more to stay,” she said, “that’s a little shopping district right there.”

Shops open Tuesday officially. There’s a grand opening from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening featuring live music and Santa Claus.

The shops are located in the vicinity of Sixth Street and Boston Avenue.
