Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. Democrat hopes to pin GOP hopefuls to right

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Democratic Party's nominee for a congressional seat in central Oklahoma hopes the two remaining Republicans remain in a race to the right.

Billy Coyle won the Democratic nomination in Oklahoma's 5th District on July 27 and two independents are also in the race. Former Rep. Kevin Calvey of Oklahoma City and longtime Christian youth camp director James Lankford face each other Aug. 24 to settle a seven-man Republican primary.

Coyle paints himself as a centrist and refers to Lankford and Calvey as "extreme right."

While the two Republicans have staked out conservative positions on several issues, both say their views are consistent with the conservative nature of Oklahomans.
