Police Rehirings

Tulsa, Okla. – Ninety-two police officers who were laid off earlier this year because of budget cuts may be rehired, according to Mayor Bartlett.

The officer recall has been made possible by the retirements of 62 police officers this year.

Mayor Bartlett has offered a budget proposal to City Council and the Fraternal Order of Police that, if approved, would also bring firefighters' salaries back up, after they voted for a pay cut instead of layoffs in February.

Interim Police Chief Chuck Jordan estimated that about 70 of the laid off officers would agree to return. Some may have found other jobs.
