Claremore, OK – Okla. businessman to join congressional race
CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) An Adair County businessman is expected to formally announce his candidacy for the open 2nd Congressional District seat in eastern Oklahoma.
Republican Markwayne Mullin has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday morning in Claremore to kick off his campaign.
The owner of Mullin Plumbing, he joins a crowded GOP field seeking to replace U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, the only Democrat in Oklahoma's congressional delegation. Boren announced this summer he would not run for re-election.
No Democrats have formally announced plans to seek the post, but among those considering a run are former LeFlore County District Attorney Rob Wallace, now an assistant U.S. attorney.
The district covers 26 counties across eastern Oklahoma, from the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in the northeast to the Red River border with Texas.
