Plane Crashes Near Tenkiller

COOKSON, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says an airplane has gone down near the Cookson Airport in eastern Oklahoma.

The Saturday's crash occurred about a mile north of the Cookson Airport. The incident occurred on the east side of Lake Tenkiller in Cherokee County.

Troopers say the single-engine plane took off from the airfield with two people aboard at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, circled the area and crashed near the airport. Both occupants were taken by air ambulance to hospitals in Tulsa. Details on their condition were unavailable Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. Spokesmen for the patrol did not immediately return telephone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.
