KWGS News

One person is dead in a plane crash this afternoon near Owasso. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirms the fatality.

The plane crashed just before 4 p.m. this afternoon near 98th Street North  about one-half a mile east of Memorial Drive.  The plane crashed into a wooded area and caught fire.

The Oklahoma Highway Patorl has been in contact with both the NTSB and the FAA. Those agencies will investigate the crash. The OHP will secure the crash site until the federal investigators arrive. That is not expected until sometime tomorrow morning.

The pilot had been in contact with the Tulsa International Airport Tower, about five miles away. It is believed he was attempting to make it to TIA for an emergency landing.
