Accident Location in Ottawa County

By AP

Miami, OK –
Miami, OK(AP) Ottawa County officials says three people have died in the a river crash. Oklahoma authorities say a pickup truck carrying as many as eight people has driven off of a snow-covered highway and into a river.

State Highway Patrol Lt. George Brown says witnesses reported there being at least eight passengers in the vehicle but that he is trying to confirm the exact amount. The witnesses were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Footage from Tulsa television station KOTV shows rescuers pulling people from the truck that is partially submerged in the icy Spring River near the town of Miami (my-AM'-uh).

Brown says the truck was travelling west when it jumped a bridge wall on Interstate 44 Thursday morning. He says the westbound lane has been closed. Hundreds of motorists were stranded on the highway during this week's powerful blizzard.
