The Cherry Street Farmer's Market will not be going to the dogs. The board that oversees the weekly market on 15th Street near Peoria will ask pet owners not to bring animals to the market, effective this week.
In part, this is due to an attack by a dog on a customer on April 5th at the market.
Board President Scott Swearingen: "Most dog owners are very considerate of others and control their pet. But in the last couple of years, there have been definite signs that the crowded market space is not a good environment for a dog. There has been a significant rise in dog fights, people tripping over leashes, and dog excrement in areas near food at the market. We are now the largest farmers' market in Oklahoma and we must do all we can to ensure that all our visitors feel safe and that market meets state and local health standards."
