Kemp Concert Series

First Presbyterian Church

The professional chamber orchestra and vocal ensemble Tactus offered its fifth program since its founding in 2014, on Sunday, January 21st at First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City and featured three of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most beloved church cantatas based on chorale settings made by Martin Luther, the program celebrating the 500th year anniversary of the Reformation and presented as the third concert this season on the Kemp Concert Series. Warren Puffer Jones, the ensemble’s founder and music director offers his insights about this history and music, and forming the ensemble and we’ll also hear the three chorales set by Luther which inspired Bach’s works, the featured cantatas including Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, Savior of the Nations, come, BWV 62, Mit Fried und Freud ich fahr dahin, In Peace and Joy I now depart, BWV 125 and Ein fest Burg ist unser Gott, A Mighty Fortress is our God, BWV 80.
