Performance Oklahoma: The Kelemen Quartet from Chamber Music in Oklahoma!

Celebrating 56 years of bringing nationally and internationally recognized chamber music ensembles to Oklahoma City, Chamber Music in Oklahoma is a non-profit civic organization begun in 1960. Made up of volunteers and sustained by the support of its members, audiences and a number of community entities the series offers a five-concert season held on Sundays at 4:00pm from October through April at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. For more information about this series and concerts this season visit their website online at cmok.org.

Founded in Budapest in 2010, the award winning Kelemen Quartet made its second US visit this fall, ending their cross country tour with a debut concert at Carnegie Hall. Just before heading to New York, the Quartet made a stop in Oklahoma City, presented by Chamber Music in Oklahoma on Sunday, October 18th at Christ the King Catholic Church in the season opening Founder’s Concert, the young Hungarian ensemble offering the String Quartet in d minor, Op 76, No. 2 of Franz Joseph Haydn, and two works by two of its countrymen, the Six Moments Musicaux, Op 44 of György Kurtág and Béla Bartok's String Quartet No. 5! In their first US tour in 2012 the Quartet made their debut in Dallas after which the Dallas Morning News wrote: “the most electrifying string-quartet concert in recent memory” and praised the ensemble’s “highly inflected and vividly interactive music-making”.

This Performance Oklahoma show airs Saturday, November 14th, 8pm on Tulsa's Classical 88.7 HD-1.
