The OKC Philharmonic welcomed guest conductor Andreas Delfs and cellist Christine Lamprea for the fifth Classics concert of the orchestra’s 28th season, presented on Saturday, February 4th at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City. The fourth of six projected programs presenting guest conductors auditioning for the position of music director, to succeed the Philharmonic’s founder maestro Joel Levine, the program features Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune by Claude Debussy, Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op 33 for cello and orchestra, the Andante Cantabile from Tchaikovsky's first string quartet arranged for cello and orchestra and the Symphony No. 5 in d minor, Op 47 of Dmitri Shostakovich.
Conductor Andreas Delfs enjoys great success in both the operatic and symphonic fields, regularly collaborating with leading opera houses and orchestras throughout the world. He currently holds the position of Conductor Laureate of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and has led the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, served as General Music Director of Hannover, conducting the symphony orchestra and opera and was the Music Director of the Bern Opera and resident conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Colombian-American cellist Christine Lamprea was the First Prize winner of the 2013 Sphinx Competition. She joined the roster of the Sphinx Soloists Program, and as such is presented as soloist with major orchestras worldwide. She has also received awards from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, the Young Texas Artists’ Competition and captured First Prize at the 2013 Schadt National String Competition.
