Owasso Man Gets Nearly 3 Years in Prison for Bank Robbery

File Photo

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A 31-year-old Owasso man has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for robbing a bank by threatening the teller with a hoax bomb.

Federal prosecutors in Tulsa said Thursday that Steven Ray Auten received the 33-month sentence after pleading guilty to the crime in December. Auten was also ordered to pay restitution to the bank.

Court documents allege Auten admitted to robbing the International Bank of Commerce and presenting a note to the teller demanding money and threatening that he had a bomb.

Auten didn't actually have the device during the robbery. He stole about $2,400.
