Oklahoma City, OK – Tulsa couple gives $12M to Okla. U. Health Center

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren says a couple from Tulsa has donated $12 million to the OU Health Sciences Center, the largest ever one-time gift to the program.

A news release from OU on Thursday said the donation was made by Peggy and Charles Stephenson, specifically to benefit cancer programs.

According to the release, $5.5 million of the donation is to be used to complete construction of a seven-story cancer facility at the OU Health Sciences Center, $6 million will provide an endowment for two faculty positions, and $500,000 will be used for a healing garden at the facility.

Boren said he will recommend to OU Regents that the cancer center be named as the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center and that the Healing Garden also carry Mrs. Stephenson's name.
