Tulsa, OK – Thousands gather to remember Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Thousands of mourners packed an auditorium today to remember the life of evangelist Oral Roberts.

Fellow evangelist Pat Robertson opened Monday's memorial service at Oral Roberts University with a prayer, describing Roberts as a man who walked with God but never gave up the common touch.

The 91-year-old Roberts died of complications from pneumonia last week in California.

ORU President Mark Rutlege spoke of how God cured Roberts of his tuberculosis when he was young.

Roberts chartered ORU in 1963 as a place where Pentecostals could live, study and pray together. The school became the first Pentecostal university in the world, taking the fiery brand of Christianity to the mainstream through radio and television.
