Ongoing Concerns --- and New Questions --- about Africa and the Environment

Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Mid-America Alliance for African Studies (or, MAAAS) has chosen "Africa and the Environment" as the main theme for its 2009 conference. The University of Tulsa will host this year's conference here at TU on October 9th and 10th, and Tulsa Community College is a co-sponsor. On our show today, we hear from James Igoe, an anthropology professor at Dartmouth University who will speak at this conference on "African Environments in the Context of Our Current Ecological and Economic Crises." By way of background: MAAAS is an organization of scholars seeking to promote research on Africa. It aims to unite Africanists from throughout the Great Plains region, although participants have come from all over the U.S. as well as from African countries.
