SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) — One man has died and a firefighter sustained minor injuries in a fire that destroyed several rooms and displaced dozens of guests at a motel on Interstate 44 in Sapulpa.
Firefighters were called to the Interstate Inn Express around 8:35 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of second-story units being on fire. Sapulpa Battalion Chief D.J. Keizor says nearly all of the units in the motel's easternmost section were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
Witnesses say a man died after being unable to escape in time. His name wasn't immediately available.
Keizor says at least one person was transported to a hospital and others were treated on-site, including a firefighter who suffered a minor hand burn.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
