Pawhuska, OK – Okla. man sentenced to 20 years in death of teen

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (AP) An Osage County judge has sentenced a Hominy man to 20 years in prison for the 1997 strangulation death of a teenage girl.
District Judge Bruce Gambill sentenced Jeffrey Garrison 40 years, with 20 years suspended.
Court records show Garrison pleaded no contest last week to first-degree murder in the July 2, 1997, death of 16-year-old Amy Hays. The Tulsa World reports that the teen had been missing for two weeks when her body was discovered July 2, 1997, in an abandoned Hominy motel with a strip of an American flag wrapped around her neck.
Prosecutors charged Garrison in 2008 after DNA evidence from a hair strand found at the motel connected him to the death.
