SCHULTER, Okla. (AP) — An Okmulgee County deputy who was investigating an accident involving a tractor-trailer rig shot and killed a man at the scene of the crash near Schulter.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the deputy shot the man about 2 p.m. Wednesday after the man pulled a weapon.

No names were released.

A statement from OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown says the deputy was at the scene where a tractor-trailer rig went off U.S. Highway 75 and into a pond near the Okmulgee Wildlife Refuge when the man pulled the weapon and the deputy opened fire and shot the man.

It was not clear whether the man was the driver of the tractor-trailer or if he fired at the deputy. Brown did not immediately return a phone call for comment.
