OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Transportation Commission plans to consider issuing contracts for urgent highway repairs, including a rock slide along Interstate 35 in southern Oklahoma.
The commission has scheduled an emergency meeting in Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Commissioners will be asked to consider approving several emergency declarations to allow the Oklahoma Department of Transportation expedite contracts for road and bridge repairs caused by heavy rains and flooding.
The contracts include proposals to address the rock slide on I-35 near Turner Falls in Murray County. One contract is for removing the damaged rock formation and stabilizing the rock face to prevent future slides. The other contract is for clearing the fallen rock and damaged layers from the highway.
It could take up to two months before all lanes of I-35 are fully reopened.
