Oklahoma City, OK – Another Oklahoma soldier dies in Afghanistan

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Another Oklahoma National Guard soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Friday that 28-year-old Sgt. Mycal Prince of Minco was on dismounted patrol Thursday when insurgents attacked using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire in the Saygal Valley of Lagham Province.

The Edmond-based unit is part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) and deployed to Afghanistan earlier this summer.

Oklahoma Adjutant Gen. Myles Deering says Prince joined the National Guard five days before his 17th birthday. National Guard officials say he attended Ninnekah High School and worked as an officer at the Minco Police Department.

Officials say he is the 11th soldiers from the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team to die in Afghanistan since July 29. Three soldiers died on Sept. 9.
