OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Supreme Court will not take up a lawsuit challenging a new state law that uncouples Oklahoma's standard deduction rate for income tax returns from the federal rate.
The state's highest court ruled Wednesday that it will not hear a lawsuit filed by Tulsa attorney Gary Richardson, a Republican candidate for governor, that challenges the law adopted earlier this year.
The lawsuit alleges the law, which freezes the standard deduction at 2017 levels, raises new revenue but was not approved by at least 75 percent of state lawmakers as required by the State Constitution.
The court ruled it's not clear whether it will raise new revenue because the federal standard deduction for 2018 hasn't been declared.
The decision says challenges to other laws by the lawsuit were decided previously.
