Oklahoma Student Who Led Racist Chant to Meet Black Leaders

OU

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state lawmaker says a former University of Oklahoma student caught on video leading a racist chant plans to meet with black civic leaders to personally apologize.

Sen. Anastasia Pittman says the student, Levi Pettit, called her to apologize and asked to meet. The Oklahoma City Democrat, who leads the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus, says she arranged for Pettit to meet Wednesday with leaders from Oklahoma's black community.

Pittman says Pettit also will speak at a press conference at a Baptist church on the city's predominantly black northeast side.

Pettit's parents issued an apology on his behalf two weeks ago, after a video showed him and another member of their since-disbanded Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter leading a chant that referenced lynching and indicated it wouldn't admit black students.
