Oklahoma Senate Campaign Raises $10K for Charities

KWGS News File Photo

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The State Senate and its staff has raised more than $10,000 for an annual state campaign in which money raised is donated to more than 100 local charities across the state.

The amount raised this year is the most that's been raised in the Senate's decade of participation in the campaign.

More than 100 Senate employees donated, with an average of nearly $100 per person.

Almost $7,000 was raised through payroll deduction, checks and cash donations. The money will go to a variety of charities covering hunger, abuse, the arts and literacy.

Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman says he's not surprised the staff was able to raise so much money because Oklahomans are caring people.
