Oklahoma Referee to Hear Tulsa DA Candidate Dispute

Oklahoma District Attorney Council

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A legal dispute between two candidates for district attorney in Tulsa County will be heard by an Oklahoma Supreme Court referee.

Oral presentations are set Wednesday in the dispute between Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler and state Rep. Fred Jordan.

Kunzweiler filed a lawsuit last month challenging Jordan's candidacy. It alleges Jordan isn't eligible to serve because of a pay increase for district attorneys that was approved by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin. The state constitution prohibits lawmakers from serving in a position for which salaries have been increased during their term of office.

Jordan maintains his term ends in November while the increase does not go into effect until next year.

State Sen. Brian Crain previously withdrew from the race.
