Oklahoma lawmakers are hoping to adjourn the 2013 Legislature one week earlier than required.
Lawmakers hope to wrap up their work for the year on Friday. The Legislature is constitutionally required to adjourn by 5 p.m. on the last Friday in May, or May 31.
This year's regular legislative session, which began on Feb. 4, can end early because lawmakers have already reached agreement on a $7.1 billion state budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1. And Gov. Mary Fallin has already signed several key legislative initiatives that have passed the House and Senate.
On Thursday, the House gave final passage to legislation appropriating $45 million in reserve funds to help tornado recovery efforts.
Early adjournment is expected to save state taxpayers nearly $28,000 for each legislative day.
