Oklahoma Judge to take Arizona cases

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. judge to handle cases of slain Arizona judge

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal judge in Oklahoma City will take over some of the criminal cases assigned to a federal judge in Arizona who was killed in a shooting at a congresswoman's event in Tucson, Ariz.

U.S. District Judge Tim Leonard told The Oklahoman that he volunteered to take cases assigned to Judge John Roll. Leonard said he's been approved by federal court officials to regularly travel to Tucson for the remainder of the year to handle the cases.

Roll is one of six people killed in the Jan. 8 shooting in Tucson during an event by Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. Giffords is one of 13 people wounded in the shooting and prosecutors have said she was the target of the gunfire.
