Oklahoma investigators Wrap up Methamphetamine Investigation

OBN

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Arrest warrants have been issued following a yearlong methamphetamine trafficking investigation by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

Spokesman Mark Woodward says agents and officers from several departments fanned out early Friday with 18 arrest warrants for defendants accused of trafficking crystal methamphetamine into Ponca City.

Woodward says traffickers would bring in as much as a pound of crystal meth into the Kay County city each week. OBN Director Darrell Weaver says it's vital for his agency to remove criminal drug elements from Oklahoma communities.

By noon Friday, seven of the 18 defendants had been taken into custody and transported to the Kay County Jail. They face a variety of charges, including conspiracy to traffic controlled substances.

Officials say more arrests are possible as the trafficking investigation continues.
