Norman, Ok – Okla. researchers to study Hurricane Irene

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Oklahoma want to get first-hand information about Hurricane Irene.

The scientists are in North Carolina to deploy two mobile radars and a state-of-the-art instrumented vehicle to intercept the approaching storm.

Officials say scientists from the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory, the University of Oklahoma and the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies are taking part in the project.
