Oklahoma’s streak of having one of the nation’s lowest prices at the pump continues, this week higher than only South Carolina.
Oklahoma’s average price for a gallon of regular gas is $2.09, tied with Alabama and Mississippi for second-lowest in the U.S. Oklahoma’s average price is down a few cents from last week, but it’s not volatile.
"We've been in this same range, though, really, for the last several months — between $2.05 and $2.15 per gallon," said AAA Oklahoma's Chuck Mai. "Things haven't really changed a lot over the long haul. Lots of ups and downs day to day, but not month to month."
There are a few reasons for that.
"One, we're pretty close to the source: Refineries here in the state, and we're close to the refineries in Texas," Mai said. "Second of all, we have lots of stations here in Oklahoma. Competition is very high. And, thirdly, our low statewide gas tax, one of the lowest in the country."
The national average price for a gallon of regular gas is $2.38. The lowest average price is South Carolina's $2.03.
