Oklahoma Exploration is Up

HOUSTON (AP) — Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Incorporated says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. increased by 11 this week to 1,925.

The Houston firm said Friday in its weekly report that 1,584 rigs were exploring for oil and 340 for gas. One was listed as miscellaneous.

Of the major oil- and gas-producing states in the southwest, Texas gained seven rigs, New Mexico gained two and Arkansas and Oklahoma added one each. Kansas lost two rigs and Colorado lost one.

West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery closed the week at $94.12 a barrel.
