Oklahoma Couple Steals Over 1/2 Million

Coffeyville, KS – Pair plead in $535K theft from SE Kan. college

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (AP) A husband and wife who worked at Coffeyville Community College have pleaded no contest to charges in the theft of approximately $535,000 from the southeastern Kansas school.

The Independence Daily Reporter reports that 40-year-old Melissa Dawn DeVivo and 39-year-old Nicholas Antonio DeVivo, entered the pleas Thursday to amended charges of forgery and attempted felony theft. Sentencing is set for Feb. 23 in Montgomery County District Court.

The DeVivos live in South Coffeyville, Okla. Melissa DeVivo worked in the college's business office from 1991 to January 2011. Her husband was the school's head cheerleading coach from 1996 to 2002.

Montgomery County Attorney Larry Markle says the plea agreement calls for the couple to pay back $300,000 at their sentencing, and the rest of the funds at later dates.
