Oklahoma Couple Pleads Guilty to Child Neglect

KWGS News

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The parents of a malnourished girl who weighed just 13 pounds when she was nearly 3 years old have pleaded guilty to child neglect.

Forty-nine-year-old Joe Knapp and 34-year-old Anne Pester entered the pleas on Tuesday to avoid a jury trial. The Tulsa couple was arrested in October 2013 and their daughter was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

Authorities say the girl had been left lying in a crib most of her life and couldn't walk, talk or chew.

Police say the parents were playing computer games when they were arrested. They told officers they spent all their time online.

Knapp and Pester face up to life in prison when they are sentenced in November.

The girl has been placed in state custody.
