Oklahoma Bound Pot Stopped in Texas Panhandle

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A California man has been arrested after a Texas Panhandle traffic stop yielded nearly $500,000 in marijuana and methamphetamine.

Carson County jail records show 32-year-old Carlos Alberto Ruiz-Alamo was being held Wednesday on charges of possession and delivery of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

The 32-year-old Fontana, California, man was detained Tuesday while driving an SUV near Conway, about 20 miles east of Amarillo.

A Texas trooper stopped the vehicle on Interstate 40. The Department of Public Safety says the drugs apparently were being hauled from Fontana to Oklahoma City.

Investigators say the SUV carried about 100 pounds of marijuana worth more than $360,000, plus 11 pounds of methamphetamine valued at about $131,000.

Jail officials had no information on bond or an attorney for Ruiz-Alamo.
