OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A federal grant of more than $1.3 million has been awarded to Oklahoma to support domestic violence victims in the state and the organizations that support them.
The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration through the Children and Families Family Violence Prevention and Services Act.
Grants issued through the act have been part of the nation's response to domestic violence for three decades. They provide funding, oversight, training and guidance to emergency shelters, crisis hotlines, prevention programs, specialized resource centers and a wide range of federal partners across the United States.
Grants are awarded to every state and U.S. territory and more than 200 American Indian tribes. The funds reach almost 1,600 domestic violence shelters and over 1,300 non-residential service sites.
